“Don’t eat sugar” is just the beginning of understanding what to eat to keep your teeth. Understanding the quality of foods, their consistency, nutritional composition, and the manner in which they are eaten can affect oral health and the risk-tolerance of developing tooth decay. When and how to eat is just as important:
Avoid eating foods that take a long time to chew or that you hold in your mouth too long. These tend to hold sugar against your teeth for an extended period.
Eat sugary or acidic foods alongside regular meals instead of as snacks. As the body produces more saliva to digest larger meals, it will also help wash away those sugars and acids before they are allowed to attack your teeth.
