Dermal fillers such as Juvederm are typically very safe and do not cause major complications for most patients. The most common concern is associated with the patient’s unrealistic expectations. Juvederm will help “diminish” the appearance of wrinkles, lines, or folds, but should not be expected to eliminate them. Should the result not be exactly what was expected, often the answer is more filler! Dr. Rita will always do what is available for you to be happy with the treatment rendered.

General care after Juvederm is usually very basic.

  • Bruising and swelling: apply ice as much as possible. For the first few days – twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off.
  • Should a headache or injection site pain arise, Dr. Rita recommends taking Tylenol or Motrin as needed.
  • Benadryl is recommended for the appearance of redness, itching or welts.
  • Lumps or bumps should be massaged with constant pressure for two minutes. Repeat several times a day.
  • Juvederm will gradually be absorbed and can last between six and twelve months, all depending on how fast your body metabolizes it.
  • Fillers are commonly used:

  • To smooth nasolabial folds (lines and wrinkles between the upper lip and nose)
  • To smooth marionette lines (lines extending down from the corners of the lower lip)
  • To smooth mentalis creases (horizontal lines between the lower lip and chin)
  • To give fullness to the lips
