IT’S A NEW SCHOOL YEAR; TEACH THEM ABOUT THEIR SMILE TOO!

As the saying goes: "It takes a village to educate our children." It is not only about math, english, reading, and science; your children's health is also a very important subject matter that needs to be addressed on a daily basis.

Oral health, in specific, is a subject matter mentioned in school every once in a while.  We, as parents, friends, aunts, uncles, and health care providers have a responsibility to our children today.  Their oral health tomorrow depends on it!  As we all know, it all starts at home.  Whether it be about manners, etiquette, school subject matters, moral responsibility, community service, religion, spirituality, or personal hygiene, our children depend on us to teach and guide them along the way.

Lets pay more attention to our kids' smiles...their oral health!  Make it fun; join them in learning about and implementing good oral health care habits.  Reviewing the essentials of healthy eating will instill a lifetime of good choices when it comes to managing their eating and extracurricular habits.

Leading our children by example is one of the most effective ways to teach them.  Visiting your dentist on a regular basis and talking about this wonderful experience with your children will make it a "normal" and necessary part of their life.  I, as a dentist, make every effort to make it a fun and rewarding experience for my child patients to visit me every six months for their check ups and professional cleanings.  We count their teeth, notice how pretty they look, check for sugar bugs, and finally make sure these smiles walk out of our office shining as bright as the brightest star!

Furthermore, planning fun activities around your child's oral health and beautiful smiles makes for a positive experience...one to always look forward to.  Personally, I have visited children's museums and exhibits that showcase life size mouths and brushing techniques.  The kids love these and truly enjoy "practicing" on them.  It serves as a discovery time.  They actually get to see and touch something that actually lives inside their own little body!

Take the time to talk about and practice excellent oral health habits as home...and beyond!  Tomorrow, you and your children will be glad you did!!

Remember, I am available to assist you, and your children, in achieving the "Smile You'd Be Proud To Wear...ANYWHERE!"
