WHY AN IMPLANT IS MORE DESIRABLE THAN A BRIDGE!
Why should you choose a dental implant instead of a three unit bridge to replace one tooth?
Both dental implants and traditional crowns and bridges are wonderful services we provide for you on a regular basis. Each of these options are better indicated in certain scenarios and should be considered seriously when planning for long term tooth replacement therapy.
In this blog entry's photograph, you will find that the area we restored was comprised of two natural teeth prepared for traditional crowns and one edentulous ( tooth less ) site where the patient's tooth had to be extracted. We considered restoring the existing quadrant with a traditional bridge comprised of three crowns splinted together. In discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of such an option, we elected the dental implant route so as to provide for a cleansable, self-sufficient, and longlasting restoration. The combination a dental implant and separate crown units allowed for the following:
- three separate teeth that are cleaned separately using a traditional brushing and flossing technique
- three separate teeth that appear more natural in form, size, and contour than those incorporated into a splinted bridge
- a dental implant meant to replace the preexisting natural root form while helping to preserve the underlying bone
- a system that allows for individual tooth failure without compromising the health or longevity of the adjacent restorations
- an option that is slightly higher in fee but that also enjoys a better, longer, and more predictable future
When trying to choose between a dental implant and a traditional bridge, make sure you and your dental professional evaluate all the pros and cons associated with YOUR specific case. Every patient presents with a unique set of circumstances, desires, and financial capabilities. Understanding what is available to you will assist in making an informed decision capable of providing you with a longlasting, beautiful, and predictable smile for many years to come!
