DENTAL IMPLANTS, AN OPTION IN SMILE RECONSTRUCTION IV
What Are Implants Made Of?
Well, dental implants today are made of a biocompatible and strong metal known as TITANIUM. This metal has proven to be extremely compatible with bone and soft tissues. Although still a metal, more recent dental implants are made of a white material known as Zirconia. Many people do not know that Zirconia is a metal....it is! Special surface coatings are utilized on certain implants that help adhere them to the surrounding bone.
Once the dental implant is integrated, or adhered, to the surrounding bone, it is then ready to receive the overlying tooth form known as the crown. This part of the dental implant restoration can be made of various materials. The most common of these includes those made of porcelain, porcelain and metal, or polymer resin.
