IMPLANT DENTURES ARE STABLE, SECURE, AND NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL

What are some of the reasons why you should be interested in dental implants when planning for a full denture?

Another happy patient left my office today with an implant-supported full lower denture!  From start to finish, the process took just a few months and now she can, for the rest of her life, confidently enjoy the pleasures of eating, speaking, and smiling!  My patient is an 82 year-old woman who has lived, for several years, struggling with an ill-fitting, unesthetic, and unstable denture. Due to significant bone loss in her lower jaw, her then denture was laying over what we call a "table top" ridge.  Simply said, my patient's lower jaw was a completely flat surface upon which she expected her denture to rest reliably.  It did not!  She lived for many years not able to confidently speak, eat, or smile.  She was in constant fear of losing the appliance while trying to enjoy the company of family and friends.  Oftentimes, she would remove the appliance and not use it all.  It was not until this past year that she decided to regain her confidence with a more advanced and healthier option.

This wonderful woman visited my office and asked me to help her regain her ability to interact normally with her family and friends while enjoying what most of us take for granted...a healthy, beautiful, and reliable smile.  The process began with a thorough discussion about dental implants and how they can serve to provide her with a full denture she would be proud to call her own. Once comfortable with the idea, she visited one of my Smile Panel Of Experts surgical specialists.  Together, the surgeon, the laboratory technician, the patient, and myself created a treatment plan that would one day, very soon, give her what she has been missing for years....her confidence!

Our team chose a special implant-supported design for her new denture...one that would provide long term support, stability, and natural beauty given her age and lifestyle.  Among the various designs we had to choose from, we decided to place three implants along the front segment of her lower jaw and build her a denture that would snap in place over a titanium bar that screwed into these.  Building this apparatus from the bottom up allowed us to concentrate on precision and perfect mechanics that now allow for an appliance that mimics nature.

The patient is able to wear this denture confidently knowing that it will not come loose nor fall out as she speaks, eats, or smiles.  She is simply ecstatic!  For proper care, she is to remove the appliance nightly to clean and care for it....just as we do for our natural dentition.

In summary, the main reason science has reached this far is to enable you to restore your body, mind, and oral health to a healthy and stable state, enabling a happy, peaceful, and confident lifestyle.  When trying to determine why you should consider dental implants for your, or a loved one's, full denture lets examine these important reasons:

  • Restore your natural smile
  • Preserve bone
  • Maintain a youthful appearance
  • Eat and chew with dignity
  • Be able to smile confidently without the fear of losing your teeth
  • Facilitate nutrition and digestion
